I GOT THE APARTMENT! ~*explodes in overwhelming joy and relief!*~ Seriously, I can't tell you how elated I am! Freedom! Finally! I shall have no phones, shall not answer the door, shall disappear for as long as I want without people nagging me, or bitching and moaning!! No more bitching and fighting every.damn.day!! I'm going to go do cartwheels down the hallway now, if you don't mind. Oh yes, and much Tequilla is required.

I GOT MY NEW PUPPY!!!! ~*Beams and dances wildly*~ He's a flashy boxer (fawn with white socks and a perfect white collar coming up his chest and around his neck like a collar), 10 weeks old and so damned cute!! Now, to name him.... Raphael or Lord Byron? ~*Grins*~ Chadeaux is like... 'Hm. I don't know if I like him yet or not. Let me sleep on it.' I'll get a pic of him soon, but in the meantime, he needs a name! 'My Pretty Boy' will only work for so long and I'm not sure the AKC will like that...

I now got have the record for making the most I have never met before cry in one day.
Strangely, I'm not pleased about this. You'd think I was. But I'm not.
I have spent the past week calling students who were supposed to start their degree program next week at the business school I teach at, and tell them that, "Yeah, no. You remember when we accepted you? Yeah, uhm, unfortunately the company is closing down this campus, so you can't really start. You should be receiving your admissions fee back in the mail. Hey, sorry, I'm out of a job too. I know it's rough. No, I don't know what you're going to do. Yes, I know this was your last chance, and I know that you need to get out of your environment. I can try and help you get in at one of the other schools here in the city, but no, you can't start next week. No, I'm sorry, there's no way I can get around that for you. Look, I know it's tough, and I'm very sorry about all of this. I know you were looking forward to coming to school here. We were looking forward to having you. But I'll make some phone calls to the other schools with your information, so expect to hear from them soon. Sorry again, have a good weekend, ok?"
Or the worst case I had to deal with was a girl who I actually met at the end of last term. She was coming here from Boston, and drove 12 hours after both she and her mom worked all night, to check out the apartment she would be sharing with another student, sign the paperwork, and move in. And I had to call her this week and tell her that, no, indeed, she was not going to be attending classes here and that she would have to come move her stuff out before the start of school. Heartbreaking, I tell ya.
Then there were the calls to the students on academic probation, and those who were being dismissed. More tears, more stress, more begging. Gyah. And it kinda scared me how quickly I was able to turn off my own emotional valve and be the calm, cool, matter of fact person on the phone. I didn't like that. Not when it comes to something like this. When you're a teacher you naturally want to help someone, anyone, you see that needs it. You'll go way the hell out of your way, to the point of neglecting yourself, to make someone else's life better. And there's nothing I can do for these kids. It kills me.
If these students were all a bunch of bastards, I would have taken great joy in this week's series of phone calls. But they aren't. Not most of them. Which is why this week sucked.
